Endometriosis: Natural Remedies

Endometriosis is a disease still very little known to the general public and doctors. The average time that women with endometriosis have to wait for the diagnosis to be made is 7 years, but this disease can be very debilitating on a daily basis and without a diagnosis, we do not always know what to do.

I therefore offer you an article with some natural solutions (phytotherapy, aromatherapy, lithotherapy) to help you alleviate the symptoms. These natural solutions can be used even in case of suspected endometriosis , but remember to talk to your doctor.

In this article I mention the EndoFrance association , know that it is in no way a promotional article or a partnership with EndoFrance , it is an initiative of Solstice & Minéraux to talk about this disease still very little known and to propose supplements natural to the usual hormonal treatments .

Symptoms of endometriosis

EndoFrance poster on endometriosis

According to the EndoFrance association , it is necessary to consult for a potential diagnosis of endometriosis when the pain of menstruation ( dysmenorrhea ) does not pass with paracetamol , that a stronger analgesic such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is needed. , and that the pain returns each month with an increasingly strong intensity. Endometriosis can cause other symptoms in some women, including:

Bleeding : bleeding from the rectum (rectal bleeding), heavy menstruation , bleeding outside the menstrual period (metrorrhagia)

Digestive and/or urinary disorders

Chronic fatigue that impacts quality of life

Pelvic pain and lower back pain

Pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia).

The causes of endometriosis are not yet known, but it is known for certain that estrogen has a bad influence on this disease. Most naturopaths therefore advise taking plants to support the liver , the organ responsible for eliminating excess estrogen .

You can also take so-called “progesterone-like” plants to avoid progesterone deficiency . It is advisable to opt for an anti-inflammatory diet avoiding inflammatory foods and phytoestrogens.

Plants

Phytotherapy

To date, there is no treatment to cure endometriosis , so we cannot really speak of a natural remedy for endometriosis , but plants can help alleviate symptoms , relieve pain and restore disease a little more livable .

Liver support herbs

The liver is the organ responsible for eliminating, among other things, excess estrogen , female hormones produced mainly by the ovaries during the menstrual cycle . When you have endometriosis , it is therefore good to consume plants that support this organ to help it eliminate this hormone which exacerbates the disease.

Milk Thistle

A milk thistle

Milk Thistle helps eliminate excess estrogen .

It is consumed:

🍃 In alcoholature : 20 to 80 drops, 2 to 3 times a day,

🍃 In capsules : 200 to 1000mg per day

🍃 As a condiment : combine ground seeds with salt.

Dandelion

Dandelion flowers in a glass of water

Dandelion supports the liver by helping it eliminate excess estrogen . It also acts as a support for the urinary system if you have damage to this area.

It is consumed:

🍃 In decoction : boil 1 teaspoon of dried roots per cup for at least 10 minutes. Drink 2 to 3 cups a day.

🍃 In salads : add dandelion leaves to your salads

Linden sapwood

linden tree trunk and leaves

Linden sapwood contributes to the proper functioning of the liver , gallbladder and kidneys . It is rich in trace elements and minerals , and therefore helps to cleanse and remineralize the body .

Linden sapwood is to be used as a detox cure or punctually in times of severe fatigue .

It is consumed:

🍃 In decoction : put 40 grams of sapwood in 1 liter of cold water and heat over medium heat (small broths) for 20 minutes, let reduce and do not cover the decoction. Drink throughout the day, preferably before meals .

Plants "balance hormones"

Women with endometriosis often have a hormonal imbalance with either a significant production of estrogen , this hormone which has already been discussed and which exacerbates the disease, or a deficit of progesterone . We therefore advise you to favor the plants mentioned above, which support the liver to help it eliminate excess estrogen , but also to consume so-called "progesterone-like" plants which imitate the effects of progesterone in the body. Here are a few :

Chaste tree

chaste flower

Chasteberry is THE plant that regulates hormones : it stimulates the production of progesterone , acts on menstruation and bleeding . It also has a beneficial effect on negative emotions (irritability, depressive states) and against the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (water retention, sore breasts, headaches). It can also be anti-inflammatory , analgesic and have a beneficial effect on sleep .

Chaste tree is generally used in cases of irregular cycles , heavy bleeding or spotting .

It is consumed:

🍃 In decoction : 1 to 3 tablespoons in 1 liter of water to boil for 30 minutes. Consume 2 to 3 cups a day, on an empty stomach in the morning.

🍃 In alcoholature : 30 drops in the morning on an empty stomach

🍃 In capsules : 500 to 1,000 mg per day, to be divided into several doses.

You will be able to start observing positive effects after a minimum of 3 months of use.

❌ Chaste tree is a plant to be used with care . It should be taken under the supervision of a doctor . Never take chasteberry if:

► You have had breast cancer (or if you have family predispositions)

► You have pituitary disorders

► You are engaged in an IVF ( in vitro fertilization ) protocol, you are pregnant or you are breastfeeding.

► You are under 18

► You have contraception or hormonal treatment (pill, hormonal intrauterine device, implant, vaginal ring, etc.). In this case, consult your doctor or gynecologist before taking chasteberry.

As we said for herbal medicine , some plants have a hormone-mimetic action, this action is also present in aromatherapy .

If you have endometriosis , you need to know which ones to avoid and which ones to focus on to rebalance your hormones .

Essential oils to avoid

These are estrogen-like essential oils , or phytoestrogens :

🌿 Atlas or Virginia cedar

Other natural solutions

Lithotherapy

raw garnet

In addition to the solutions proposed above, you can also use lithotherapy stones to help you and in particular:

💎 Almandine garnet to regain the strength to fight against disease . It gives energy , strength , courage and helps to persevere .

💎 Find our list of stones against painful periods in the dedicated article

The derivative bath

Invented by Louis Kühne, the derivative bath consists of refreshing the crotch (sex and perineum) with cool water. You can also use other quicker and easier techniques like gel packs .

In the context of endometriosis , the derivative bath would make it possible to limit adhesions , bloating , pain , and to deactivate estrogens . It would also improve transit .

How to proceed ?

Above all, make sure you are in a heated room or cover yourself warmly (plaid, socks, etc.) to avoid chills .

This practice is not recommended in case of exhaustion , recent operation of the perineum (less than a year), during the first trimester of a pregnancy by treatment (IVF or other), in case of tachycardia or if one carries a pacemaker .

The derivative bath can cause contractions of the uterus , so it should not be done during menstruation .

With a bag: place the bag of gel or frozen water (surrounded by a towel) between the legs, at the level of the perineum and keep it in place for about twenty minutes once or twice a day at the beginning, then 1 2 hours a day thereafter.

With a basin and a glove: place yourself above the basin filled with cold, non-icy water, dip the glove and rub gently, always from the groin to the perineum , to the right then to the left, dip again the glove and start again, it must be done for at least 10 minutes.

💕 There are plenty of other natural solutions : acupuncture, yoga, osteopathy, kinesiology, hypnosis but also spa treatments.
